Home is the eighth album by Dutch band The Gathering. The album was released on 15 April 2006 by Sanctuary Records through its heavy metal label Noise. Home' had a separate release in North America which took place on 18 April 2006 by Brooklyn-based label The End Records. It was the last album to feature lead singer and lyricist Anneke van Giersbergen. Home was produced, mixed and engineered by Attie Bauw, who also was at the helm during the ‘How to measure a planet?’ recordings. The album was recorded in a little church in Maurik, the middle of the Netherlands.

Well, The Gathering is probably the band that has changed the most of any band in history that I can think of. In all honesty, they have undergone so many changes to their sound that hearing a few records spanning over their career you would think they were all albums from entirely different bands. They started their days as a doom metal band with cheesy keyboards, slow doom riffs, and male growling vocals with female vocals as well. They are the cream of the music crop. The latest release from them comes and with it I held the high hopes of yet another completely surprising and breathtaking album. What I got wasn't quite what I expected.

Ever since their debut as a fairly standard-issue black metal band in the early '90s, Dutch rockers the Gathering have shifted their sound and style a few times, particularly since adding lead singer Anneke Van Giersbergen on 1995's Mandylion.
