That album was Nimrod. You almost forget that the acoustic Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) – a song used as the reflective soundtrack to everything from England getting knocked out of the 1998 World Cup, to newsreels of Princess Diana after her death – is on there, tucked away one track from the end. Most of all, Nimrod is Green Day’s best album because of where it found them.
by Green Day. Album: Nimrod (1997). Charted: 11. Get the Sheet Music License This Song. The song was such a sonic departure for the band that record stores reported a high rate of returns from customers who purchased the Nimrod album expecting similar songs. Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this song in 1993 and submitted it for the band's first major label album, Dookie, which was released in 1994. Both the band and their label agreed that it was a great song, but didn't fit on the album, which was loaded with Punk blasters. The song was held back and included on the Nimrod album. This song was featured on two very high-profile TV shows in 1998.
With Nimrod, Armstrong’s juvenile sense of humor is back. On The Grouch, he complains, I’m turning out like my dad, and on the ska romp King for a Day, he imagines life as a drag queen. But Armstrong’s teen-slacker protagonists can also sound almost reflective on Nimrod as they slide into an adult world not much more promising than the dazed-and-confused one that they left behind. Lost opportunities are mulled over in Walking Alone and Haushinka, and a handful are kissed goodbye on Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) . But now that the band has seen the world, it’s only fitting that Green Day should finally make an album that sounds as if it has. Nimrod is such an explosive album. It seriously has it all, It has very energetic songs like The Grouch and All The Time, songs when you know that the band had fun making like King For A Day and Nice Guys Finish Last, songs when Green Day goes absolutely punk rock like Take Back and Platypus (I Hate You), and to top it all of, with what. American Idiot's less popular but all around better brother. The Dave Franco of Green Day albums, if you will.
