I think there is a distinction between best and favourite. My favourite, being the one I listen to most often, is the 2X4 live album from the early 80s. I also really enjoy the Brussels live album from 2000. It's rare I'll actually listen to one of their studio albums.

Lament is a studio album by German band Einsturzende Neubauten, released on 7 November 2014. The album is a studio reconstruction of a performance piece commissioned by the Belgian town of Diksmuide to commemorate the outbreak of World War I. Among the album's pieces are an opening track featuring lyrics that are not sung, but intended to be read by the audience.

One of the more curious works in Einsturzende Neubauten's long and varied career, 1996's Faustmusik is a close relative of 1991's Die Hamletmaschine, their score for an avant-garde reinterpretation of Shakespeare's play. This play, by Werner Schwab, is more of an oratorio than an opera, with the focus entirely on the recitation and singing of Schwab's German verse by Einsturzende Neubauten's lead singer, Blixa Bargeld (as Mephistopheles, appropriately enough!) and other actors

Einsturzende Neubauten were founded by vocalist/guitarist Blixa Bargeld and an expatriate . Unruh in Berlin as a performance art collective; their early activities included a seemingly inexplicable half-naked appearance on the Berlin Autobahn, where the duo spent some time beating on the sides of a hole in an overpass. The group's early lineup also included Beate Bartel and Gudrun Gut (who soon left and founded the new wave band Mania D), plus contributor and sound engineer Alexander Hacke (aka Alexander Van Borsig). Neubauten's music for Werner Schwab's radio play Faustmusik was released in 1996, as was studio album Ende Neu, which was later released by Trent Reznor's Nothing label in America. Jochen Arbeit and Rudi Moser, both formerly of Die Haut, joined Neubauten in 1997; additionally, Ash Wednesday became the group's touring keyboardist.
