Elvis Costello’s voice is like a treasured old leather jacket: ready to be thrown on in any occasion, battered with age and proving some things get better as they get older. Take the opening track of his new album, ‘Wise Up Ghost’ – a collaboration with hip hop souls The Roots, whose sideline as the house band on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ brought them together with Costello during his appearances on the show
Unexpected collaboration and stylistic reversal have become hallmarks for Elvis Costello, but none reaches as far afield as teaming with the Roots. While his early throwbacks to classic R&B thread the obvious connection, the Roots traffic in more funked-up rhythms, unloaded at the outset with the scratched groove of "Walk Us Uptown. They also push beyond the singer's vocal range, his gritty croon crackling in contrast to the band's tight rhythms

The Costello Album, also The McCartney/MacManus Collaboration, is a Paul McCartney album that includes work from his 1987–88 songwriting collaboration with Elvis Costello. The album includes demo recordings made by Paul and Elvis in the throes of their collaboration, other demos of some songs by Costello and McCartney individually, live performances by Costello, and two duo live performances taken from a 1995 benefit concert at the Royal College of Music.
Philly guns-for-hire The Roots have apparently found a new paymaster. According to Exclaim, their next musical project will be another unlikely collaboration – a joint LP with speccy troubadour Elvis Costello
