An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a collection on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78-rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats.

Understanding how and why auroras occur helps us learn more about the complex space environment around our planet. Radiation and energy in near-Earth space can have a variety of effects on our satellites – from disrupting their electronics to increasing frictional drag and interrupting communication or navigation signals. Further out in space, the five THEMIS probes were well-positioned to collect data on the motion of the disrupted field lines. Magnetic field lines oscillated in a roughly six-minute cycle, or period, and the aurora brightened and dimmed at the same pace.
Altitude The Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis occur in the ionosphere. Most auroras occur in the E-layer of the ionosphere, which is located 90 km to 150 km (60 mi to 90 mi) above the earth’s surface. When there is a change in the solar wind, the energetic charged particles, which are traveling back and forth along the Earth’s magnetic field lines, spill into the polar atmosphere. Auroras are caused when these energetic particles, . electrons, protons, spill into the ionosphere, slamming into atmospheric atoms and molecules, especially nitrogen and oxygen. These collisions impart a lot of energy to the atoms and molecules they hit. In turn, these molecules and atoms liberate some of the collisional energy in the form of light, which is the aurora.
The aurora borealis and aurora australis occur in the Ionosphere from around 100 km up. This layer of the atmosphere is also called the Thermosphere. This is called the aurora borealis. Auroras occur when charged particles outside the Earth's atmosphere collide with atoms in the upper atmosphere. The result: a glowing display of curtains, arcs, and bands in the sky. The phenomenon is called aurora borealis or northern lights in the Northern Hemisphere and aurora australis or southern lights in the Southern Hemisphere. The constituent particles of the solar wind are trapped by the earth's magnetic field and enter the earth's upper atmosphere as aurora. It is described as aurora borealis in the northern hemisphere.
