It became my beacon and prayer and mission statement for the writing of the whole record. Producer: Glen Ballard & Alanis Morissette. Guitars: Glen Ballard, Nick Lashley, Joel Shearer. I am listening to this damned cd again, and it is torturing me. Oh the pain, the horror. And to think, I was actually looking forward to this album. Lucky for me I only borrowed it, had I bought it I would have either burned it or given it away. What's that? You would have taken it off my hands for me? Oh, I couldn't inflict that kind of torture upon you, my dear reader . Alanis is back, as I am sure you have figured out by now. After Jagged Little Pill broke records for the most copies of a debut album ever sold, she has mighty big expectations to live up to. Sadly, she totally misses the mark.
While it's not a repudiation of her blockbuster, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is a clear step forward, teeming with ambition and filled with new musical ideas and different sonic textures. Alanis Morissette's voice still sears, but she has more control over her singing, rarely reaching the piercing heights that occasionally made Jagged Little Pill jarring. Also, she has clearly spent some time crafting her lyrics; not only do they never sound like straight diary entries, she no longer is trying to fit too many syllables into a phrase

With all the blistering honesty we'd expect-and a calm gratitude we didn't-Alanis' follow up to Jagged Little Pill proves lightning can strike twice, but not quite the way we imagined. With Arabic-inspired melodies, dark electronic grooves, fuzzy guitars and sparkling keyboards, Morissette delivers warmhearted songs like "Thank U" and "So Pure" with gentle serenity.
