After the disappointing Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones and fan pleaser Dead Set On Living the band were becoming a little too predictable for my liking and I almost let this album slip me by. The Cancer Bats fifth studio outing takes Liam and co. to a much rawer and darker place.

So much of this album deals with the harsh realities of life, but this catharsis is meant to be ultimately optimistic, not nihilistic. That’s why the album’s default slogan comes through with the album closer, No More Bull Shit. It’s a concise, live show-ready mantra that helps sum up both the lyrical appeal of the album but also the way Cancer Bats has viewed its sound. However, Cancer Bats has figured out how to maximize its sound by focusing on the musical and lyrical impact more than just on riffs. This is the type of record that is lasting, not just a flash in the pan that is perfect for headbanging or filled with stadium-ready bangers.
