With stories, live and vintage music, Scott Alarik explores how people used folk music to work, love, mourn, raise their children, and express how life felt to them. Then track how those songs turned into today’s vibrant folk world, from Robert Burns to Bob Dylan, Bessie Smith to Joan Baez, Jimmie Rodgers to Pete Seeger. Discovering Folk Music: a Class for Fans and Musicians Passim. In this class, for both music lovers and musicians, we ask what folk music is in the 21st century. With stories, live and archival music, Scott Alarik explores how people used folk music in thei. assim.

After his release, Alarik turned his attention again to music. Releasing a solo album, Stories, in 1978, he became a semi-regular performer on early broadcasts of the National Public Radio show A Prairie Home Companion. His second album was recorded with the show's house band, the New Prairie Ramblers, in 1981. Moving to Boston shortly after the release of his third album, Simply Christmas, in 1983, he slowed down his career as a performer to focus on his work as a folk music critic for The Boston Globe

Scott Alarik's first novel, Revival, set in the folk music world in the Boston area, is a delightful read for folkies and non-folkies alike. While Revival is a love story, it is truly so much more. It is the story of the transformation of Nathan, an experienced folk musician questioning his role in the folk community. It is through his relationship with Kit, an up and coming folk musician, that Nathan is able to come to terms with his inner demons and find a sense of peace within himself and his role within the folk community.

Revival, by Scott Alarik, is a great read! It's romantic, it’s tragic, it’s funny, it’s sexy, wrote Noel Paul Stookey, of Peter, Paul & Mary. And most importantly, it’s accurate. I’ve always loved the chamber-folk setting created by Peter Ostroushko and bassist John Anderson. Soon after recording it, I was gratified to see John Lennon say in an interview that he wished he’d done it as the folk ballad he meant it to be, and not let the lads talk him into speeding it up.

Revival is a novel similar to Crazy Heart and A Star is Born that celebrates America's renewed passion for folk music and singer-songwriters as well as a May-December romance with a young female songwriter and older male songwriter.
