Popo is a West Coast jazz album with a previously unreleased 1951 recording session by trumpeter Shorty Rogers and his quintet. It was first released on LP in 1980 by Don Schlitten on his Xanadu label.

Although it is difficult to know it from the scanty and overly breezy liner notes, this CD reissues the Shorty Rogers record Chance Are, It Swings plus five of the eleven numbers from a set titled The Wizard Of Oz & Other Harold Arlen Songs; all of the Wizard Of Oz songs have been skipped over.

Milton "Shorty" Rogers (April 14, 1924 – November 7, 1994) was one of the principal creators of West Coast jazz. He played trumpet and flugelhorn and was in demand for his skills as an arranger. Rogers worked first as a professional musician with Will Bradley and Red Norvo. From 1947 to 1949, he worked extensively with Woody Herman and in 1950 and 1951 he played with Stan Kenton.

Jazz Waltz (Shorty Rogers album). Jazz Waltz is an album by American jazz trumpeter, composer and arranger Shorty Rogers, released on the Reprise label in 1963. On All About Jazz Dave Rickert said "the novelty of ¾ time in music is still fresh even today and Joe Mondragon and Mel Lewis create a seemingly infinite variety of ways to swing in waltz time. Rogers contributes a few catchy melodies (in particular the title track) and creates lovely charts"

The Big Shorty Rogers Express/Shorty Rogers And His Giants/Wherever The Five Wi. Product details. I have to confess that I was disappointed with the "Express" album, where I felt that many of the numbers lacked cohesion, and matters were not helped by the stop and start nature of the arrangements. Listening to the level at which the orchestra played, I was reminded of Jelly Roll Morton's dictum "If a glass of water is full, you can't fill it any more; but if you have a half a glass, you have the opportunity to put more water in i. That's not to say there aren't any quieter passages, but they are few and far between.

Shorty Rogers was an agile trumpet player with a light and always swinging style, but his largest contributions to jazz came from his wondrous arranging and composing abilities. Bossa Nova (Original Album Plus Bonus Tracks 1962).
