After School Session is the debut studio album of Chuck Berry, released in May 1957 on Chess Records, catalogue LP 1426. With the exception of two tracks, "Roly Poly," and "Berry Pickin'," all selections had been previously released on 45 rpm singles. It is the second long-playing album released by the label. The first song on the original version of After School Session to be released was "Wee Wee Hours", the B-side of "Maybellene", issued in July 1955.

In 1972, Chuck recorded a partially live album called "The London Chuck Berry Sessions. The live portion of the album was recorded at the Lanchester Arts Festival in Coventry, England, with the Average White Band backing up Chuck for the show. This is where he recorded the song that was ironically to become the only 1 pop chart hit of his career, a novelty thing called "My Ding-A-Ling," which was done originally by Dave Bartholomew back in 1952. While still a high school student he was arrested, and served a prison sentence for armed robbery from 1944 to 1947. After his release, Berry settled into married life and worked at an automobile assembly plant. By early 1953, influenced by the guitar riffs and showmanship techniques of blues player T-Bone Walker, Berry began performing with the Johnnie Johnson Trio.
