New Trolls are an Italian progressive rock band, known for their fusion of rock and classical music. Their history is filled with line-up changes, band name changes and struggles between band members. The band was founded around the mid-1960s, when musicians Vittorio De Scalzi, Nico Di Palo, Mauro Chiarugi, Giorgio D'Adamo and Gianni Belleno decided to form a band called New Trolls, after the name of the previous band of one of them, The Trolls.

In 1973, NEW TROLLS split into two camps, the hard-rocking IBIS and the symphonic-oriented NEW TROLLS ATOMIC SYSTEM. and great hits, passing through beat, pop ballads, progressive rock works, hard rock, and melodic pop followed groups like GENESIS and PFM. In 1971, the TROLLS released their greatest album "Concerto Grosso No. 1" that's still recognized as one of the most important Italian rock releases ever made. This album was to take them in a new direction

The story began in Genova, circa 1966, when former members of The Trolls decided to form a new band. Their first album, Senza orario senza bandiera (1968), combines 60s psychedlia with some Classical tendencies, and yielded several singles for the band. Their second album, New Trolls (1970), was actually a compilation of numerous singles.

The album closes with a 20'30" raucous, bluesy/hard rock jam session entitled Nella sala vuota, improvvisazioni dei New Trolls that features some great Hammond organ work, great vocal sections, and good performances by everybody in the band, although the seven minute drum solo really got on my last nerve.
