Several conductors recorded incomplete runs of the symphonies on LP, including three, Hermann Scherchen, Max Goberman, and Derek Solomons, whose efforts have been reissued in all or part on CD. In the sixties, Leslie Jones conducted some fifty of Haydn's symphonies together with The Little Orchestra of London. Although not using period instruments, Jones may have been one of the first conductors to use small scale forces. Four conductors have recorded the complete symphonies of Joseph Haydn. Ernst Märzendorfer recorded a complete set, but it was little known at the time due to limited. 91 is not Haydn at his most incandescent; Marriner-ised performances such as this do little to maximise its appeal. Seekers of twilight, transience and transfiguration - the payload of the Oxford - look elsewhere. Not infrequently, Uncle Karl Bohm gives undertakers a bad name but his 1974 performance of 92 with the Vienna Philharmonic is expiation in itself for his turgid Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms (Haydn: Symphonies No. 88, 89, & 92 'Oxford').
