Description

Album including Album cover Booklet (PDF). Formats & Prices. Jean-Marie Leclair epitomized the idea of an eighteenth-century virtuoso-composer, one whose compositional output largely reflects his activity as a performer. Whilst the French school possessed precursors such as Jean-Féry Rebel, it is very much to Leclair that it owes its genuine development. Leclair published twelve concertos for violin in two sets, Op 7 (. 737) and Op 10 (. 743). The Op 7 collection, of which four concertos have been included in this recording, is without doubt partially made up of works which Leclair performed at the Concert Spirituel between 1728 and 1736. Since March 2005 Fabio Biondi has taken on the role of artistic director for baroque music at the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and from 2011, he is also academician of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome).

LECLAIR: Violin Concerto in D minor Op.

Jean-Marie Leclair l'aîné, also known as Jean-Marie Leclair the Elder (10 May 1697 – 22 October 1764), was a Baroque violinist and composer. He is considered to have founded the French violin school. His brothers Jean-Marie Leclair the younger (1703–77), Pierre Leclair (1709–84) and Jean-Benoît Leclair (1714–after 1759) were also musicians. Leclair was born in Lyon, but left to study dance and the violin in Turin. In 1716, he married Marie-Rose Casthanie, a dancer, who died about 1728

Leclair: Violin Concertos, Vol. 3. Collegium Musicum 90 Ensemble, Simon Standage Violin. CD: 1 Tracks: 12 Length: 58:08. CD 1. Jean-Marie Leclair Composer. Violin Concerto in D-, O., N. Work.

Jean-Marie Leclair's treatment of the Baroque violin concerto was based on the virtuoso Italian concertos of Arcangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi, but he also incorporated characteristic French airs and dance forms that had developed in the music of Jean-Baptiste Lully and Jean-Féry Rebel and influenced composers from François Couperin to Jean-Philippe Rameau. This recording by violinist Fabio Biondi and the strings of Europa Galante presents four concertos from Leclair's Op. 7, which are representative of his collection of 12 violin concertos, and show the composer's practice.

Jean-Marie Leclair Violin Concertos. Published on 02-Aug-2018. To all of this Standage brings a seasonedvirtuosity which he places totally at the service of the music's grace: his bowing in particularcommands admiration. From the stylistic viewpoint these concertos are interesting for theirmingling of French and Italian elements.

Jean-Marie Leclair exemplified the eighteenth-century virtuoso-composer whose compositional achievements reflected his mastery as a composer. In this recording, acclaimed violinist Fabio Biondi leads his Europa Galante ensemble in four of Leclair’s violin concertos, bringing to these works a sense of Leclair’s uncompromising ideal of performance with a precision in execution and nobility of expression. 8. kHz, 24-bit PCM – Glossa Studio Masters.
