Fourteen years ago Liv Runesdatter stumbled across a small collection of old recordings. Hidden on them lay forgotten melodies from a small pietistic laymen’s movement that emerged in eastern Norway in the 1860s, and it marked the start of a passionate affair and study. Since then she has worked on her project Syng hjerte (Sing Heart) and delved even deeper into this rare music tradition. An important music project,challenging the Norwegian traditional music field, both through Runesdatter´s voice performance andthe catchy and untraditional musical choices.

Liv Runesdatter lives in Stavanger, a small town in western Norway. She works a freelance singer, composer and producer. She is one of very few singers performing the rare music tradition of Vestfold and Rogaland. Autumn 2008 she released her first solo album "Syng hjerte" (Sing heart), presenting a vigorous collection of songs. Musicians on the cd are high class Norwegian musicians such as Rolf-Erik Nystrøm (sax), Alfred Janson (accordion), Trygve Seim (sax), Håkon Thelin (double bass), Tuva Thomassen Bolstad (harding fiddle) and Vidar Skrede (baglama).

He is also contributing on recordings like Geitungen – Vaniljesaus (2001), Geitungen – BRA KAST (2005), Gry Oftedal – Tvilevise (2005), Synnøve Sletten – Nattfiol (2005) and Liv Runesdatter – Syng hjerte (2008). The album, Geitungen – BRA KAST, won the prize for best album of the year in open, experimental category at Norwegian folk music awards 2005. His strong knowledge of folk music traditions, his genre-expanding skills and interests, his instruments and his playing, makes Vidar Skrede one of Scandinavia’s most outstanding folk music artists of to day.
