My friend, compadre and sometime employer Mr. Tony James Shevlin has a single out now in advance of the release of his new record album, ‘American Odyssey’. Firstly, I will say that it’s not pulling up any trees in terms of re-inventing the form, and in my opinion it’s not the best song on the album – that would be either ‘Ride the Mississippi’ or ‘Tucumcari Sunset’ – the latter with a beautiful nylon-strung guitar solo that echoes Warren Zevon’s ‘Carmelita’ and the former a lolloping. blues-groove number written, yes, by The Mississippi.
The Odyssey is the sixth studio album by progressive metal band Symphony X, released on November 5, 2002 through Inside Out Music. The album is the band's first to be recorded entirely at guitarist Michael Romeo's home studio, The Dungeon. Accolade II" is a sequel to "The Accolade" from The Divine Wings of Tragedy (1997). The title track is the album's grand finale: a 24-minute musical interpretation of Homer's Odyssey, an epic poem about the journey of ancient Greek hero Odysseus.
Tony James Shevlin is an Anglo-Irish singer-songwriter who's been a professional musician for most of his adult life and has performed all over the world, from Europe to Russia, Africa, America, the Middle East and Australia. Along the way he’s had songs used by Amnesty International, The Troggs, and REM. In 2015, Tony toured the US with his album Songs From the Last Chance Saloon – an album which brings together his influences from growing up in an Irish household, listening to the Beatles and Marty Robbins. Whilst out on the road, he wrote 11 songs – one for each thousand of the 11,000.
