Bob Dylan is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on March 19, 1962 by Columbia Records. Produced by Columbia's legendary talent scout John H. Hammond, who signed Dylan to the label, the album features folk standards, plus two original compositions, "Talkin' New York" and "Song to Woody".

Dylan also said that he wrote the song looking at the fall-out shelters in his head, but didn’t write it down for a couple of years. And of course the phrase Let me die in my footsteps is incredibly evocative. But by the time of the Whitmark version Dylan felt he had played the song far too many times already, and that it had lost all its point. Quite possibly it had for him, but for everyone else, it had not.
