The Cathedral of Tomorrow was built in 1958 as home to Rex Humbard's ministry. Rex Humbard Foundation. In 1960, Rex and the Humbard family made their first trip to the Holy Land, the land of the Bible. Over the years the Humbard family has made over 43 trips to Jerusalem and countries throughout the Middle East including Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Each time the family made this journey they went to proclaim the Gospel of Christ.
Under Rex Humbard's ministry, Cathedral services were broadcast on 600 television stations in the United States and Canada, as well as on stations in many other countries. The influential Gospel quartet Cathedral Quartet had their origin at the Cathedral of Tomorrow. Humbard began to build a rotating tower restaurant, similar to Calgary Tower, at his Cathedral of Tomorrow complex, which was also slated to hold a transmission tower for his planned local TV station, WCOT-TV (Channel 55; the license was later used by current day CW affiliate WBNX-TV)

As the Cathedral of Tomorrow boomed, Humbard invested in other businesses, including a religious college in Mackinac, Michigan, an office block in Akron and a girdle factory in Brooklyn. When he became over-extended, he relied on loans from the Teamsters Union, then run by Jimmy Hoffa, and on selling bonds to his followers. He moved to Florida, setting up Rex Humbard Ministries, with studios outside Palm Beach. He soon concentrated on producing home videos for direct marketing, and on personal revivals, particularly in the increasingly lucrative Latin American market. Humbard sold out football stadia in Brazil for weeks at a time.
The Cathedral of Tomorrow was built in 1958 as home to Rex Humbard's ministry. It has a domed roof with a large illuminated cross that hangs from the ceiling. The cross weighs 32 tons (to give the domed roof greater architectural strength during wind storms) and is illuminated with 4,700 lights which can change colors.
