Wonderful Life is the debut album of English singer Black (the stage name of Colin Vearncombe), released in 1987. It peaked at on the UK Albums Chart in September of that year. Three of the songs were co-written with Vearncombe's friend and musical collaborator, keyboardist Dave "Dix" Dickie. In 1985 Vearncombe wrote the minor key song "Wonderful Life".

New Wave music meant a lot of things in the late 1970s. It encompassed pretty much everything that followed the punk movement that still served as an alternative to mainstream pop and rock. There was power-pop, neo-psychedelia, acid-punk, art rock and lots and lots of keyboards. 46. Soft Boys – Underwater Moonlight (1980) Today it’s hard to understand how the lightly psychedelic pop-rock of the Soft Boys was ever considered anything close to punk. The Age of Plastic’s New Wave influence was forged less in British punk and more in prog rock (both Horn and Downes would later join prog institution Yes on their Drama record). It makes this record (and, even more so, the band’s second album) stand out more for the musicianship, while never taking itself too serious.

A&M then re-released "Wonderful Life," and this time it became a massive hit worldwide. The only territory to release the record that didn't have significant commercial success was the USA. The accompanying debut album then achieved over a million and a half sales worldwide. Colin Vearncombe backstage at the start of Black's 1993 tour, reflecting on this song: "It's another one of life's rich ironies that because my first marriage messed up in a very big way, I ended up writing a couple of songs that were the most successful I've ever written
