Description

With the Skylark "experiment" behind him, Paul Desmond reverted back to the relaxed quartet format that suited him well in the past

Easy Living is an album recorded by American jazz saxophonist Paul Desmond featuring performances recorded between 1963 and 1965 which were released on the RCA Victor label.

Paul Desmond (born Paul Emil Breitenfeld, November 25, 1924 – May 30, 1977) was an American jazz alto saxophonist and composer, best known for his work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and for composing that group's biggest hit, "Take Five". He was one of the most popular musicians to come out of the cool jazz scene. In addition to his work with Brubeck, he led several groups and collaborated with Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Jim Hall, and Ed Bickert.

Paul Desmond: Pure Desmond by John Kelman, published on February 2, 2011. Pure Desmond was only one of two albums the saxophonist made for CTI (though he did record two albums with Creed Taylor for A&M, before the producer started his own label), but it's the absolute winner of the two. A small group album featuring the same three bonus tracks as a previous CD version, with CTI Masterworks' warm remastering and beautiful mini-vinyl-like soft digipaks, it represents a welcome return to print of an album that, despite alcoholism and heavy smoking, finds Desmond in great form just three years before his death in 1977

Exclusively for Prime members. Sample this album Artist (Sample). Desmond is in especially fine form here. The liner notes say that Paul wanted to make the album as a showcase for guitarist Ed Bickert (whom Paul had just worked with) but, in reality - in spite of the truly fine playing that Bickert exhibits - the music flows most wonderfully of all through Desmond. If you've never heard the album, you'll be delighted; if you haven't heard the disk in some time, you'll thank yourself for listening again.
