Direct Hits is a greatest hits album by American rock band The Killers, released on November 11, 2013 by Island Records. The album includes tracks from the band's first four studio albums and features two new tracks - "Shot at the Night" and "Just Another Girl", produced by Anthony Gonzalez of M83 and Stuart Price respectively. Regarding the album's release, vocalist Brandon Flowers noted, "This record feels like a great way to clean everything up and move onto the next thing.
compilation album Magic Bus: The Who on Tour, but is otherwise unrelated to that release. Strangely, it does not include the song Magic Bus, which had reached on the . singles chart during the summer of 1968. Until the early 1980s this was the only album to include a few Who rarities such as "In the City", "Dogs", and The Rolling Stones' song "The Last Time. The album is of interest mostly to collectors. It was re-issued on vinyl in stereo during the 1980s in Japan.
After meeting Dan Treacy in 1981, the band started recording for the Whaam! record label. After releasing a single and album, the band's future releases were all on their own imprints, apart from Speed Over Berlin and later re-issues. Despite constant gigging in Britain and Europe with several excellent releases, the band never broke into the mainstream and folded in 1987, reforming for a one-off performances in Autumn 1988, 2004 and 2017. Had this in the car for 5 weeks. Even the early stuff sounds great on repeat exposure.
Direct Hits was the first official compilation of the Who's music. And it would be notable on that basis alone, even though it was planned exclusively as a European release
The album was not a strong seller and was deleted in the early 1970s. This limitation makes the collection rather unrepresentative of The Who's work up to 1968. compilation album Magic Bus: The Who on Tour, but is otherwise unrelated to that release.
Direct Hits, the greatest hits album released by the band a year after their fourth studio album, Battle Born, ends up being a quality song for song retrospective of the band’s first ten years together that rightly focuses on the songs the band released as singles. As a stand-alone compilation, however, Direct Hits comes off as being not only unnecessary, but also not really complete.
