Johann Strauss II. A Waltz by Strauss. A Rhyme & Reason. Josef Alois Krips (8 April 1902 – 13 October 1974) was an Austrian conductor and violinist. Krips was born in Vienna, and went on to become a pupil of Eusebius Mandyczewski and Felix Weingartner. From 1921 to 1924, he served as Weingartner's assistant at the Vienna Volksoper, and also as répétiteur and chorus master. He then conducted several orchestras, including in Karlsruhe from 1926 to 1933

Gathered in this volume are four perennial hits - On the Beautiful Blue Danube, Voices of Spring, Pizzicato Polka, Tritsch-Tratsch Polka - along with 11 other Strauss gems, including contributions from Eduard, Josef, and Johann Strauss I that are just as engaging, if somewhat less frequently played than those of Johann, Jr. This Musical Heritage Society disc is part of a three-CD reissue from 2009, Vienna Philharmonic Plays Strauss, which covers the Waltz King's most popular pieces.
