Wolfsbane were the first English band signed by Rick Rubin's Def American label, and the ever patriotic British press immediately began touting the band as the next big thing. Famous for raw, organic production jobs which revitalized many a career, Rubin completely botched the band's 1989 debut, Live Fast Die Fast, resulting in a flat sound that squelched the band's raucous metal aggression.

While Live Fast, Die Fast doesn't have much in the way of variety and ultimately suffers from lackluster drumming, it's still a fun fucking listen. Wolfsbane deliver in fact a quite entertaining and solid record somewhere between AOR, hard rock and heavy metal. The fast and short songs get quite boring after a while but especially the more experimental tracks are easily worth checking this record out. The longest track "Tears From A Fool" starts an acoustic rock ballad and turns into an energizing commercial hard rock track with some strong eighty vibes.
