By: Crayon (1994, Rock).
Crayon s time together was relatively brief; in 1994 Roberts quit the band and Tollefson and Fell went on to form the seminal indiepop band Tullycraft. Between Crayon released a handful of singles and one full length album, Brick Factory. Featuring fuzzy guitar and heartfelt lyrics, the album saw Tollefson and Roberts alternate vocal duties. Tollefson s vocals solidified the twee status of the music; sounding a bit agitated and immature, his voice personified the album on songs like The Snap-tight Wars and Chutes and Ladders

Brick Factory was the only album released by the indiepop band Crayon. It was recorded by Pat Maley at Yoyo Studios in Olympia, Washington. The album was released in 1994 on Harriet Records out of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The 2014 digital download of Brick Factory included 21 bonus songs – comprising tracks from 7 singles, compilations, 4-track demos, live recordings and unreleased songs.

Crayon existed as a whisper, a rumor, a mysterious name on the wind for the past 20 years. It’s been that long since their only full-length, Brick Factory, was originally released on cassette and CD by Massachusetts label Harriet Records. Since then, it’s been heralded by indie icons like Dinosaur, Jr. But for years, actually tracking down a copy of the album proved fruitless (even digitally). My mom’s Mercury ate my Crayon cassette in the late ’90s, and it’s been that long since I had a chance to give this one a spin.
