Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 is the second solo studio album by the English singer-songwriter George Michael, released on 3 September 1990. The album was Michael's final album of all-new material on Columbia Records until 2004's Patience. Disappointing album sales in the US led to Michael's legal battles against Sony Music, in which he accused the corporation of not fully supporting him as an artist.

When George Michael released a mostly acoustic, bossa nova-inflected album in 1990, in the season of Nelson and Wilson Phillips, many critics responded as if Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block had announced a run for president. If Listen Without Prejudice starts a trend among Michael’s pop generation to move beyond image to integrity, James Hunter lauded in Rolling Stone, it could make ‘rock and roll TV’ sound more consistently and convincingly like music. Robert Christgau wasn’t fooled: Whatever the sleazy details, his announced decision to hold off on the dance music till next time.

Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1 is not an entirely successful effort; Michael has cut back on the effortless hooks and melodies that crammed not only Faith but also his singles with Wham!, and his socially conscious lyrics tend to be heavy-handed. But the highlights - the light, Beatlesque harmonies of "Heal the Pain," the plodding number one "Praying for Time," and also "Waiting for That Day" as well as the Top Ten "Freedom" - make a case for his talents as a pop craftsman.

And globally, the late George Michael's sophomore LP Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1, released in September 1990, was just that. America, however, was resistant to the record's wiles and it showed in its pale commercial and critical performance here
