Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur is a compilation album of various artists covering songs of John Lennon to benefit Amnesty International's campaign to alleviate the crisis in Darfur. The album and campaign is part of Amnesty International's global "Make Some Noise" project.
Let's get the basics out of the way first: Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur is a charity album for a great cause, a benefit for Amnesty International's campaign to aid the crisis in the Sudan, an unimpeachable nonpartisan cause if there ever was one. For this campaign, Yoko Ono donated the publishing to John Lennon's solo songs covered for this charity album, effectively turning Instant Karma into a Lennon tribute album.
The proceeds support Amnesty International and its campaign to focus attention and mobilize activism around the urgent catastrophe in Darfur, Sudan. John Lennon would have turned 67 in 2007. If alive, he could well be at the forefront of bringing peace to Darfur, where more than half a million have died from violence and disease during four years of rebel discord. This tribute to John Lennon is superb. Of course no artist can fully me just like Lennon, but they are wonderful nonetheless. In addition, the cause behind this album is one that I can really get behind to support.
