Queens of the Stone Age is the eponymous debut studio album by American rock band Queens of the Stone Age, released by Loosegroove Records on October 6, 1998. It was primarily written and recorded in April 1998 by founding member Josh Homme and his former Kyuss bandmate Alfredo Hernández, with Hernández playing drums and Homme singing and playing the rest of the instruments. Homme also produced the album alongside Joe Barresi

Following the collapse of negotiations with Roadrunner Records, the album was released on September 22, 1998 on Loosegroove Records, operated by Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard. The album was primarily written and recorded by founding member Josh Homme and former Kyuss drummer Alfredo Hernández, and features a riff-oriented songwriting style that Homme subsequently dubbed "robot rock". It is the first of seven Desert Sessions songs to be re-recorded by Queens of the Stone Age. The song has been a staple of the majority of live sets since the album's release and was still occasionally played by the band on the Era Vulgaris tour. If Only" is a re-recording of "If Only Everything", which Queens of the Stone Age originally recorded under a different guise, Gamma Ray, and released on the Gamma Ray EP.

Songs for the Deaf was QOTSA’s breakthrough album and garnered the band mainstream attention. Often said to be one of the band’s best albums, it is hailed by critics and fans alike as a masterpiece, with many collaborations and guest appearances. Songs for the Deaf Q&A. Producers Adam Kasper, Eric Valentine & Josh Homme. Writers Alain Johannes, Josh Homme, Mario Lalli & 2 more. Backing Vocals By Chris Goss, Dave Grohl, Mark Lanegan & 1 more.

The Bronze" & "These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For" were included in the 1998 EP 'The Split CD' with the band Beaver. Spiders and Vinegaroons" was originally released on the album 'Kyuss/Queens Of The Stone Age'.

Nearly two decades later, Queens of the Stone Age are one of the biggest names in contemporary hard rock. Aside from Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails-whose figureheads, Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor, have both appeared on past Queens albums-you’d be hard-pressed to find a group of comparable critical or commercial standing. Further buttressing the group’s ubiquity is Homme’s many collaborations, seen in the frontman’s resume of side projects (Desert Sessions, Eagles of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures) and ce stints (Arctic Monkeys, Iggy Pop, the Strokes offshoot CRX). The album’s predetermined angle of Ronson-assisted simplicity is ultimately a red herring. Villains’ songwriting is just as, if not more, devious than anything in the band’s discography.
