Heroes is the second album in David Bowie’s Berlin period, where he traveled to Berlin, Germany to detox after battling a cocaine addiction. The other albums in his Berlin period are Low in 1977 and Lodger in 1979. This new detoxed Bowie is becoming accepted, and setting out the blueprint for electronic music for the next decade. Heroes has it all. It would be the album that every young budding musician would refer to for guidance and inspiration for the next decade, and beyond.

Annie-B Parson, of New York’s Big Dance Theater company, was the choreographer on the Lazarus musical and worked in close proximity with Bowie from September until the opening night in December. She said she did not know he was ill and did not think the actors knew either as they worked quickly to develop the show in a tiny studio at the New York Theater Workshop. David Bowie was the Picasso of pop. He was an innovative, visionary, restless artist: the ultimate ever-changing postmodernist. Bowie was thought to have suffered a heart attack in 2004, after which he largely stopped making public appearances. His last live performance was at a New York charity concert in 2006. But after a decade without a studio album he released The Next Day in 2013, surprising fans who thought he had retired. It became his first UK number one for 20 years

David Bowie released 'Heroes' in October 1977. In 1977, David Bowie was in the middle of yet another transformation. With the October release of Heroes, he took further steps into a more electronic-flavored sound that first reared its head on the Low album issued earlier in the year. Often referred to as his "Berlin Trilogy" due to the influence of the city where much of the recordings were made, the trio would be complete with Lodger from the 1978. All three albums are distinctly different, yet have a unifying sonic theme.
