Esa Ruoho (born October 26, 1978 in Helsinki, Finland), better known as Lackluster, is a Finnish electronic music producer and performer from Kontula, Helsinki Ruoho has lived most of his life in Helsinki, Finland, but has also, since 2000, travelled to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada for six months in 2000–2001 and also spent time in Dublin, Ireland. Ja mitä soitat? Tätä kokeili Esa Ruoho, joka tammikuussa 2019 esiintyi Helsingin Vuosaaressa, Vuotalossa, osana äänitaidegalleria Akusmatan järjestämää Polyphonic 2019 -tapahtumaa. Hän soitti pelkkiä piuhoja eli johtoja, joihin ei ollut kytketty mitään äänilähdettä, ei mitään instrumenttia. Ja noiden kytkemättömien johtojen synnyttämiä signaaleja hän käsitteli tietokoneellaan reaaliajassa. Plugged into nothing, kuten tekijä itse metodiaan kutsuu. Huima idea, joka kaiken lisäksi toimi. Esa Ruoho kann alles, glaubt er zumindest, drum weiss man nie, wie das denn nun klingen wird. Aber hier ist es einfach wunderbar. Denn auch wenn Lackluster sich gerne mal in unendlichen Ambeint-Drones verliert, blitzen in seinen starken Tracks unfassbare Killermelodien durch, bounct die 808 einen heftigen Boogie und alles ist prima. So auch auf Showcase, einer Zusammenstellung von Tracks, die, soweit wir uns erinnern können, alle schon mal im Netz kursierten und den klassischen Lackluster zeigen, ungefähr so, wie wir ihn auf seinem Defocus Album lieben gelernt haben
