Twist & Shout is the second studio album released by The Isley Brothers on the Wand label in 1962. Album Twist & Shout. Twist and Shout Lyrics. Twist and Shout is a song written by Phil Medley and Bert Russell (stage name for Bert Berns). It was originally titled Shake It Up, Baby and recorded by the Top Notes and then covered by The Isley Brothers. Russell had been very unhappy with the producing done by Phil Spector on the version of the song by The Top Notes, which he felt led to the songs commercial failure. When the Isley Brothers decided to record the song in 1962, Russell opted to produce, and thus demonstrate to Spector what he had intended to be the sound of the record.
