Willie Nelson may be considered a songwriting great, but he too has his idols. Back in January, he saluted the iconic tunesmith Ira Gershwin with the tribute album Summertime. Soon, he will revive the songs of another hero, the late Ray Price, who he was also lucky enough to call a friend. The pair’s friendship can be traced back to the early 1960s, when Nelson performed with Price’s early band the Cherokee Cowboys. The pair played together from time-to-time over the years, before officially reuniting in 2009 to record the collaborative album Last of the Breed with Merle Haggard.
