Inspirational vigor is provided throughout the album by Sizzla as the Jamaican singjay uses the will of a Bobo and a slippery tongue to both overcome Babylon and regain Zion at the same metaphoric moment. The opening track As in the Beginning is absolutely colossal as Sizzla declares his identity, and the identity of every righteous black man, as that of "the royal son of King David".

It is without a doubt, lyrically, one of his best, and I really like the fact that Greensleeves decided to put the lyrics to all of the songs in the liner notes, seeing them in writing actually somewhat helps the entire experience somewhat.
Sizzla's Royal Son of Ethiopia was his sixth album of all new material since his debut which appeared a mere four years previously. It came in the wake of his high profile and critically acclaimed albums Praise Ye Jah, Black Woman and Child, and Freedom Cry and as such with this high profile release, for UK reggae giants Greensleeves, his followers were eagerly expecting another classic. Upon it's release however many were disappointed, claiming that it did not match the high standards set by his previous albums
