The Trío Matamoros was one of the most popular Cuban trova groups. It was formed in 1925 by Miguel Matamoros (8 May 1894 in Santiago de Cuba – 15 April 1971; guitar), Rafael Cueto (14 March 1900 in Santiago de Cuba – 7 August 1991; guitar) and Siro Rodríguez (9 December 1899 in Santiago de Cuba – Regla, 29 March 1981; maracas and claves). All three were singers and composers.

Trio Matamoros was one of the most popular early Cuban bands. Formed in 1925 by Miguel Matamoros, Rafael Cueto and Siro Rodriguez, Trio Matamoros had a unique brand of musical identity called bolero-son. Beny Moré played with the band from 1945 to 1947. Elements of swing, mambo and rhumba were incorporated into the group's sound.

Founded by Miguel Matamoros in Santiago de Cuba in 1925, Trio Matamoros helped revolutionize the Cuban Son by composing numerous classics and becoming internationally recognized performers. They specialized in a romantic style called bolero-son, which added a heightened rhythmic presence to the style's fundamental elements of guitar, voice and percussion. When Matamoros' voice lost its magic in the '40s, they brought onboard new singers (such as the legendary Beny More) and continued performing until 1969. Their enduring contributions to the world of Spanish song - and Cuban identity - include such standards as "Son de La Loma," "Lagrimas Negras," "La Mujer de Antonio" and "El Que Siembra Su Maiz.
