Weather Report is the debut studio album by American jazz-fusion band Weather Report, released in May 12, 1971 by Columbia Records. The album was reissued by Sony and digitally remastered by Vic Anesini in November 1991 at Sony Music Studios in New York City. Writing on the back sleeve of the album, Clive Davis, the then president of Columbia Records, opines: "There have always been two kinds of musicians-those who create and those who imitate. Ultimately "Tale Spinnin'" comes off as a very different album compared to itīs predecessors. The style is still jazz rock/fusion but the tracks are more tightly structured with memorable themes and a more funky rythmic feeling. One of the things I noticed right away, compared to previous releases, is the less adventurous rythm playing.

Throughout most of Weather Report's existence, the band was a quintet of keyboards, saxophone, bass, drums and percussion. Famous members were the American saxophonist Wayne Shorter, keyboard player Joe Zawinul, bassist Jaco Pastorius and drummer Chester Thompson.
