1. Jubilate Deo omnis terra. 2. Hor ch'el ciel e la terra (Petrarca). 3. Freue dich des Weibes deiner Jugend (Proverbs 5:18-19, adapted). Choir – The Monteverdi Choir. Conductor – John Eliot Gardiner. Recorded at Guildhall, London (3/1994).
The "Jubilate Deo" CD celebrates 30 years of music by the Monteverdi Choir under the able direction of John Eliot Gardner. The selections on the CD span 400 years of music making and are intended to indicate the range of musical literature of the Choir as well as its performance excellence. The first selection, "Jubilate Deo" by Giovanni Gabrieli, gives the CD its title and is perhaps the best thing on the disc. The refrain is interspersed with short verses in Latin, ending with "jubilate Deo omnis terra.
The Monteverdi Choir, ORR and John Eliot Gardiner conclude their celebration of Berlioz's music, marking the 150th anniversary of the composer's death with a performance of his first opera, Benvenuto Cellini.
