Description

The last concerto of 1784, the one in F major (K. 459), finished on 11 December, was surely written with Mozart himself alone in mind. Each of the three movements is more beautiful than the preceding, so that one might almost call it a finale-concerto.

Like the majority of the piano concertos Mozart composed in Vienna, the F Major concerto, No. 19, was written for his own use, possibly at an Advent concert in December 1784. The extant autograph score gives no date of composition, but Mozart entered the concerto in his thematic catalog on 11 December of that year. He would also likely have included it along with another new concerto, K. 466 in D Minor, in a series of six Lenten subscription concerts he gave in the Mehlgrabe in Vienna the following February. One is washed away unresistingly on the stream of his emotions.
