Marian organ built by karl joseph riepp ( 1710/58) restored by steinmeyer in 1947, at benedictine monastery in ottobeuren, organ built by ARP schnitger in in 1686/88 in the ludgeri-kirche, norden. Soloists: KARL RICHTER. Instrumentation: Organ.

Organ music and organ playing were determining elements of the Lutheran liturgically influenced church services in Thuringia. The organ did not just have a high place high up above the pulpit and altar as an embodiment of heavenly music. It was also an active partner in the verbal profession of faith. Aside from its soloistic and choir accompanying functions, it played an important role in florid music and ensemble music with other instruments. This practice received special attention in Thuringia, even in the smallest towns. The Trost organ is especially suitable for the performance of music.

Karl-Heinz Schneeberger – Violin, Manfred Clement – oboe, Karl Kolbinger – fagott, Hedwig Bilgram – harpsichord, Hans-Martin Linde – flute, Pierre Thibaud – trumpet, Günter Höller – flute Münchener Bach-Orchester Orchester, Karl Richter. CD 7 : Brandenburg Concerto N. in D, BWV 1050 Brandenburg Concerto N. in B flat, BWV 1051

Conducted by Karl Richter. Bach: St. John Passion. Johannes-Passion BWV 245. Karl Richter. Münchener Bach-Chor, Münchener Bach-Orchester. Tenor : Ernst Haefliger; Baritone : Hermann Prey, Soprano : Evelyn Lear; Contralto : Hertha Töpper; Bass : Kieth Engen. They should all be shot - but not in the head, because they have no vital organ there. As an example of superb video direction, see Jonathan Miller's production of the SJP (or was it the SMP (BWV 244)?) which begins as a film of a rehearsal but gradually becomes a dramatic piece of cinema. My first encounter with the SMP (BWV 244) was through a dramatized version produced by NBC in 1960 (?) - those days are long gone.

Teldec's mammoth Bach 2000 box set represents a kind of culmination of that original attempt to come to terms with Johann Sebastian Bach's unparalleled legacy. This set brings together performances recorded over the last several decades-a small percentage of the recordings are previously unreleased-of all the extant works determined by modern scholarship to be authentic. Violinist Thomas Zehetmair is exceptionally compelling in the unaccompanied sonatas and partitas, and the Concentus musicus Wien-again under Harnoncourt-perform a superb Musical Offering that richly repays frequent listening.

Some 20 years later Bach compiled a second book of the same kind, which became known as The Well-Tempered Clavier, Part Two (in German: Zweyter Theil, modern spelling: Zweiter Teil). Such a system is reminiscent of Herbert Anton Kellner's 1977 temperament and even more, among the others, the temperament of the 1688 Arp Schnitger organ in Norden, St Ludgeri and the temperament later described by Carlo Gervasoni in his La scuola della musica (Piacenza, 1800). For the profit and use of the studious musical young, and also for the special diversion of those who are already skilful in this study, composed and made by Johann Sebastian Bach, for the time being Capellmeister and Director of the Chamber-music of the Prince of Anhalt-Cothen. No. 1: Prelude and Fugue in C major, BWV 846.
