Description

Recorded Live at Heidelberg Thingstätte, Sunday 6th July 1969. The recording was made at the 2nd Holy Hill Jazz Meeting. Title C1 from Joe Viera - Ed Kröger Quartett is not "Vibration" as on the cover but "Fifteen And More". Information about track-title provided by Joe Viera.

International Holy Hill Jazz Meeting.

The original double LP was issued by Meno Liechtenstein’s CB Records – he was also the organizer of the International Holy Hill Jazz Meeting in Heidelberg/Germany. The sound quality on the original album was not really bad – but it certainly was not really good as well. We spent a lot of work on a proper restoration of the live tapes. A legendary moment in European free jazz – performances all recorded on a single Sunday in 1969 – but which stand as some of the most powerful music of the time! The vibe here is often in the best spirit of early FMP, or maybe the most outside work of MPS – and the recording quality equals the best avant jazz on both labels – with very long performances on each track that represent the pinnacle of all players involved!

Meeting Jazz Club is at Meeting Jazz Club. Meeting Jazz-International Children's Day Charity Concert.

But J Jazz avoids the clangers and is composed entirely of the good stuff. Compiled by British collectors Tony Higgins and Mike Peden, the album spans cosmic jazz, abstraction and on-fire dancefloor fusion by artists whose names are generally only known to niche listeners. A running thread through the tracks is the ramped-up drive of the drummers and the bassists (which compensates for the longueurs of soloists whose enthusiasm occasionally runs away with them).

J Jazz' includes obscure and sought after rarities like the bass-driven power jazz of Koichi Matsukaze’s ‘Earth Mother’, the holy grail rarity of Aizawa Tohru Quartet’s ‘Dead Letter’ and the loping majesty of Takeo Moriyama’s ‘North Wind’. Great find from the creative year 1969. Sound quality is pretty good for a live recording. My only complaint is there is virtually no Liner Notes to speak of. Nothing....few pictures and not even a single comment on what went into this "historic concert". Its almost as if someone found this recording packaged it for sale and did absolutely no research into the artists or how the Concert came about. I assume they figured lets just make some money off this recording and who cares about anything else. Thank god its not expensive.
