Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) is the seventh studio album by English rock band the Kinks, released in October 1969. Kinks frontman Ray Davies constructed the concept album as the soundtrack to a Granada Television play and developed the storyline with novelist Julian Mitchell; however, the television programme was cancelled and never produced.

British Empire: British Empire, a worldwide system of s, protectorates, and other territories-that over a span of some three centuries was brought under the sovereignty of the crown of Great Britain and the administration of the British government. Great Britain made its first tentative efforts to establish overseas settlements in the 16th century.

The music will move anyone who listens, because there is such an enormous mount of pathos in what Ray Davies has done. He’s presented the last hundred years of English history through the eyes of one little man who never meant a thing to the rest of the world - as if Sinclair Lewis had followed Babbitt from birth to death and then made it into a musical comedy. Less ambitious than Tommy, and far more musical - no fillers, no waste tracks, not a matter of ideas but of perceptions worked out by bass, drums, voices, horns and guitars - Arthur is by all odds the best British album of 1969. I really thought the days of the guitar were numbered. The kid picked up the smooth red axe and plucked the metal strings lightly. Then I heard the new album. New album? the old man quizzed, puzzled by the whole thing. What new album? Sssh, the kid said with a smile, Ten Years After.

But the history of music in the British Isles is much richer than Schmitz was prepared to admit: many of the earliest developments in European music began there. Tracing the early history of written music in Britain takes some detective work. An 11th-century manuscript from Winchester Cathedral demonstrates that polyphonic music (in which the individual voices sing separate lines) was already cultivated there before the Norman Conquest of 1066.

Music guide to Britain. For decades, British music has taken the world by storm. Artists like The Beatles, Queen, and Genesis entertain millions of people and their songs are still frequently played on the radio. Even in recent years, the number of musical talents coming from Great Britain shows no sign of slowing down with musicians such as Ed Sheeran, Adele and Calvin Harris dominating the pop music scene. For every music fan visiting Britain we have produced a music guide to some of the biggest cities, so you can get closer than ever to your favourite bands. Thanks to The Beatles and their legendary Abbey Road album cover, a pedestrian crossing on a normal London road is one of the biggest tourist attractions for music fans. The zebra crossing is just outside the Abbey Road studios, where the four musicians recorded many of their albums, so it is a perfect photo opportunity for every Beatles fan.

Throughout the album, we learn about protagonist Arthur Morgan and his family, such as his wife and his son, Derek, who moves to Australia with his wife and family. His other son, Eddie, and Arthur’s brother of the same name who both died in separate wars are also mentioned. Other than the protagonist and his family, the album also touches on various conflicts and events in England and war. The story is loosely based off of various events in England and Ray Davies' own experiences in life. The album was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a film of the same name. After the film was cancelled, the band released it as a concept album.

Various Indian states were also subjugated. By 1815, Britain possessed a global empire that was hugely impressive in scale, and stronger in both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, and around their shores, than that of any other European state. All of this had occurred within basically the same protectionist trade network as in 1688: free trade, much discussed by Adam Smith and Josiah Tucker, had failed yet to make much inroad into British economic policies. Sceptics would also argue that British manufacturing production owed more to demand from the domestic market than from overseas customers; they would stress agricultural productivity and other supply-side factors as the vital components of British economic growth.
