Leviathan manages to sound plenty shitty here (in a good way, mind you), but it’s how Wrest has such a vicious, calculated control over the album. Wrest is known for crafting some of the most bestial riffs around and there’s no exception here. The man exercises his chops on tracks like Mine Molten Armor, Scenic Solitude and Leprosy, or the more melodic, but still heavy-as-hell Sardoniscorn. Despite the album’s apparent heaviness, what make The Tenth Sub-Level of Suicide a great fucking album isn’t that it’s got its moments of terrifying heaviness, it’s also something that broods

Truth be told, The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide is an uncomfortable album; I would never describe it as tranquil. It stresses a certain mood, and that mood is not a positive one. However, while the mood it circulates may be a dreary one, that mood is consistent, and that’s one of the things that makes this album work so wonderfully. This sound is achieved by the sole member of Leviathan: Wrest. Sure, it’s not terribly uncommon for a black metal band to have only one member

Tenth Sublevel Of Suicide. It's just a repetitive little electronic outro, but it's really quite affecting, and fits the mood of the album well. At the Door to the Tenth Sub Level of Suicide' is the epic closer. Overall, it is perhaps just average for the album, but it comes to a stirring, genuinely powerful crescendo about 10 minutes in, with the sorta epic feel that reminds me of the best moments of the great Weakling. It definitely provides a good sorta exclamation point to the album.
