Once CDs came around, it seems there was a scarcity of the older Tom Verlaine and Television material, although I dutifully bought his solo and one Television album in the early 90s. Those were good, but didn't quite capture the magic of "Cover", which arguably stands as his finest. This compilation has most of the selections from "Cover", along with several others I hadn't previously heard. 5 Miles of you" might be the perfect example of a Tom Verlaine song.

Tom Verlaine is the eponymous solo debut studio album by American musician and Television guitarist Tom Verlaine. Several tracks, including "The Grip of Love", "Breakin' in My Heart" and "Red Leaves" trace their roots to unreleased Television songs. In the case of "Red Leaves", the verses are drawn from "Adventure", the unfinished title track of Television's 1978 album, Adventure. Fred Smith, bassist for Television, also performs on the record . Literate Brooding Eerie Ethereal. The Miller's Tale: A Tom Verlaine Anthology. Any career retrospective of a man like Tom Verlaine was bound to be lacking in some respects, but The Miller's Tale is about as good as it could be, given that the man's career has spanned nearly 20 years and a large number of consistently good albums. All three Television albums are represented here, but for some reason "Foxhole" from Adventure is missing, as is "1880 or So" from Television.
