It is a landmark album as it is one of the first live recordings to feature Coltrane in his newly adopted free jazz mode, with the stellar support of Pharoah Sanders. There are still the melodic phrasings opening up pieces, but Coltrane and Sanders quickly drift into cosmic flights with Donald Garrett adding double bass support to Jimmy Garrison. Tapestry in Sound features these two great bass players. This confirmed a lot of what I already understood, although I learned that Pharoah Sanders was a new ingredient to the mix. As an educational motif, this particular album provided answers.

Pharoah Sanders (born Farrell Sanders, October 13, 1940) is an American jazz saxophonist. Saxophonist Ornette Coleman once described him as "probably the best tenor player in the world". Emerging from John Coltrane's groups of the mid-1960s, Sanders is known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of "sheets of sound"
