File Under: Easy Listening (also known as . is the second (not counting the EP Beaster) and final album by Sugar. Primary songwriter Bob Mould discussed material written after Beaster in 1993: "It's pretty punk rock. Not real fast, just pretty basic. A lot of it's really vocal-y. Really beautiful and really harmonic, but it's real piledrivin. eird chord changes underneath real traditional vocal lines. So I think it'll be somewhere between these last two records

Mould quickly formed Sugar with bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis, releasing Copper Blue on Sept. Music is such a circular thing. When Nevermind came out, that album changed the way people listen to music," Mould told NPR in 2014. A lot of the songs that I had been writing in 1991 led up to my next group, Sugar - and had it not been for Nevermind, I don't know if Sugar's Copper Blue would have stood a chance in '92. But people were now receptive to this sound. Then came an appearance at an outdoor festival in Germany before some 7,000 people – all of whom, it seemed, where there to see Nirvana. On the verge of releasing their breakthrough Nevermind, Mould admitted that Nirvana "customarily trashed the joint. Mould had the bad luck to follow them.

Ultimately, Copper Blue is an album that not only sounds as good now as it did twenty years ago, but also one that’ll still blow cobwebs away two decades hence. You released two solo albums after the demise of Hüsker Dü in the shape of Workbook and Black Sheets Of Rain. What made you decide to return to a band format and how did Sugar form? Bob Mould: I guess it all started in 1990 when I was wrapping up the tour for Black Sheets Of Rain
