Mariss Jansons conducts the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Rossini’s Overture ‘La gazza ladra’. Here the snare drums are clearly to be heard, referring to the role the gendarmes play in de opera. Mariss Jansons was chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from 2004 to 2015. Jansons has been music director of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2003. He has made numerous appearances throughout the world as a guest conductor of the Berlin, the Vienna and the London Philharmonic Orchestras, as well as the leading orchestras in the United States.

In addition there is a valuable performance of Bach Harpsichord concerto in d with Dinu Lipatti because of it's beauty and the rarity of recordings of this great artist. Beethoven Vn Concerto with Francescatti is odd due to a not very tidy first movement by the soloist who then from the 1st movement cadenza through to the end is fully back on spectacular form. Also lovely is the french music, Debussy La Mer and Ravel: Daphnis Suite 2, regrettably without chorus. Also good to have Beethoven Piano Concerto with the great British pianist Solomon.
