The cool thing about Blind Lemon Jefferson is not that he was the first country blues superstar, the person to make the tough black guy with acoustic guitar wailing into the mike image marketable and profitable, opening the doors for dozens of followers. Unfortunately, Blind Lemon made all of his recordings on the shittiest of all major labels in the 1920s: Paramount. Note: if you are new to Blind Lemon, do not, at all costs, begin right off the bat with the Complete series on the Document label - the songs here have not been properly cleaned up or remastered.

90 performances by Blind Lemon Jefferson were reissued in chronological sequence as his "complete recorded works" by the Document label in 1994. The songs were parceled out neatly so that material from each successive year of his short recording career occupied a separate disc, with volume one containing 23 selections recorded between December 1925 and December 1926.

Lemon Henry "Blind Lemon" Jefferson (September 24, 1893 – December 19, 1929) was an American blues and gospel singer-songwriter and musician. He was one of the most popular blues singers of the 1920s and has been called the "Father of the Texas Blues".
