Jack van Poll was born in 1934 in Roosendaal, The Netherlands. He started playing piano at the age of four. After the liberation of the Second World War he discovered the first Bebop tunes on V-discs and on the American Forces Network Channel. His album Hi Jackin' (Decca, 1972) has for a long time been DJ Rainer Trüby's best kept secret in his dj-sets all over the world, because on this album the Fender Rhodes sound is ubiquitous. Van Poll saw this album as a one-time experiment.

He joined the Lionel Hampton band on their East Coast Summer tour in 1985, and made his debut in Manhattan with Dee Dee Bridgewater that same year. It's not clear exactly when Van Poll discovered the use of puns in band and album titles, but it seems well imbued by 1972. Hi-Jackin", recorded in 1972, appears to be his only album using the fender rhodes.
