The Lemon of Pink is the second album by American musical duo The Books, released October 7, 2003 on the Tomlab record label. Like much of The Books' other work, The Lemon of Pink incorporates sampled elements juxtaposed with folk and string instrumentation and other melodic elements, including guest vocals by Anne Doerner on the first track, "The Lemon of Pink".

The Lemon of Pink is the second album by The Books, released October 7, 2003 on the Tomlab record label. Initial critical response to The Lemon of Pink was very positive. The online webzine Pitchfork Media placed "The Lemon of Pink" 20th on their top 100 albums of 2000-2004 "That Right Ain't Shit" was used as the soundtrack in an advertisement for a Hummer vehicle.

The Books continue their collapsing of musical genres with THE LEMON OF PINK, which creates an entirely new form: glitch-folk. The banjo that permeates the first part of the title track sounds so wrong, it’s right, especially set against a cut-up musical collage that features a plaintive-and seemingly improvised-vocal and soothing strings that start to screech in the second part. Tokyo doesn’t sound vaguely Japanese unless you count the vocal sample; instead, you have layers of strings, plucked, bowed, and snipped apart. There’s a bit of meandering in A True Story of a Story of True Love beyond the title, but piecemeal approach to music seems to suit this album, especially when things come together, like on the upbeat That Right Ain’t Shit. And, believe it or not, PS makes manages to make a statement out of awkward inarticulation.

The Lemon Of Pink (remastered). Following up their hugely acclaimed debut, Thought For Food, The Lemon of Pink was the album that cemented the Books as a pioneering musical force. It would become their biggest-selling album (a feat usurped only by the recently released The Way Out), and still stands as perhaps the most beloved album in the Books' unfailingly brilliant catalog. As with the recently reissued Thought For Food, The Lemon of Pink is repackaged with dazzling new artwork and expanded to include lyrics for every song for the first time ever.

The Lemon of Pink Part Two- A somewhat soft guitar comes in, then is overlapped with a violin. The violin comes in at different times, and sometimes it seems like they just cut/pasted the violin part. I love the television set analogy. Everyone should listen to The Books at least once in their lives.

Like 2002's Thought for Food, The Lemon of Pink combines experimental collage technique with an organic, folky mixture of banjo, guitar, violin, simple vocal melodies, and snippets of conversation. The collage technique snaps like that of the United States of America, but is used to introduce glitches in the melodic elements, whereas the . attempted to subvert the tradition of the pop form

The Lemon Of Pink is built in much the same way that its predecessor was, and while it conjures up similar feelings at times, it also takes off in different directions entirely with the addition of actual vocals. 70. Some of the shorter tracks feel like distractions, but when the fragile mixture of field recordings, samples from radio broadcasts and twanging folk instruments comes into focus, the results are quietly fascinating. Interestingly, it seems Matmos had the same idea with "the Civil War", perhaps following the Books' lead?). This album makes you feel like something important is happening. 0 of 0 users found this helpful.
