Little Feat's debut may have been a great album but it sold so poorly, they had to either broaden their audience or, in all likelihood, they'd be dropped from Warner. So, Sailin' Shoes is a consciously different record from its predecessor - less raw and bluesy, blessed with a varied production and catchier songs. That still doesn't make it a pop record, since Little Feat, particularly in its first incarnation, was simply too idiosyncratic, earthy and strange for that
Little Feat is the first studio album by the rock band Little Feat. It was released in 1971 on Warner Bros. The album was recorded mostly during sessions between August and September 1970. Its sound is in a similar vein as the band's more widely known later recordings, such as 1973's Dixie Chicken and 1978's Waiting For Columbus. The record features Little Feat's Mk. 1 line-up, with Roy Estrada on bass. It was the first of eight albums by the band before its initial 1979 break-up.
Little Feat’s second album, from 1972, is a dusty trove of loose-limbed blues, flinty R&B, and essential rock ’n’ roll. It finds a band heading down a road littered with seamy truck stops and beat motels. It speaks in literate ways of living on biker speed, bad weed, and cheap wine. It’s like there was some great American mythic living inside the head of frontman Lowell George: a guy looking for freedom who wrote and sang songs because he knew there was nothing else in life for him. (To hear just how dicey that existence was, listen to the anthemic opener, Easy to Slip )
Sailin’ Shoes Lyrics. There's a lady in a turban, in a cocaine tree She does a dance so rhythmically She's cryin', and a-singin' and having a time And don't that cocaine tree look fine. You've got to put on your sailin' shoes Put on your sailin' shoes Everyone will start to cheer When you put on your sailin' shoes. Jedidiah, he's got a dime Says he catch a more fish, every time Well I got a line, and you got a pole And I'll meet you at the fishin' hole.

Overall Impression - 10 Sailin' Shoes is an underappreciated, underrated album of fine quality music. I was definitely not the least bit disappointed with the wide selection of music to enjoy on this album. A couple songs that are popular among Little Feat fans are the feel-good country-rock tune "Easy To Slip" and the down-home country ballad "Trouble".
