Although Sippie Wallace had begun recording again in 1958 after a long absence (just two 1945 numbers were cut after 1929), she had only recorded a total of 11 selections (including three songs a week earlier in 1966) when she made this album, her definitive LP of her later years. Sixty-eight at the time, Sippie was still a powerful singer, as she shows here on such numbers as "Woman Be Wise," "Shorty George Blues," "I'm a Mighty Tight Woman," and "Up the Country Blues.
In 1966 Wallace recorded an album on Halloween night, Copenhagen, Denmark, Women Be Wise, with Roosevelt Sykes and Little Brother Montgomery sharing the piano stool. Bonnie Raitt had been impressed by Wallace's picture on a record she happened to pick up in a London store in 1968. "I saw the rhinestone glasses and the tiger-striped vest and said to myself, 'This woman really knows how to dress. Sippie Wallace - Women Be Wise. In the early '30s, Wallace stopped recording, only performing the occasional gig. In 1936, both George Thomas and her husband Matt died. In 1966 she recorded the solo project Sippie Wallace Sings the Blues for the Danish Storyville label. She lay down several blues tracks with the Otis Spann and Jim Kweskin Jug Band in 1967, although these session would not be released until the early 1990s.

Sippie Wallace knew about the Blues because she was part of its roots. She was one of the original Blues Divas; a talented young songwriter, a riveting performer and a most respected artist who became a best-seller in the early days of ‘race music‘, but she also knew about the suffering and loss that gives the Blues its heart and soul. Beaulah Thomas was born in 1898, the daughter of a Baptist Deacon in Houston, Texas. They recorded an album of duets together, and then a solo album appeared, ‘Sippie Sings the Blues’ with Roosevelt Sykes and Little Brother Montgomery sharing piano duties. The same year, she also cut a live album on Halloween night in Copenhagen, with the same side-men, that showed the warmth and passion she brought to the stage. The Blues Festivals loved Sippie, but in 1970 she suffered a stroke and it took her some time to recover.
Until 1992 the award was known as Best Traditional Blues Performance and was twice awarded to individual tracks rather than albums. The award was discontinued after the 2011 Grammy season in a major overhaul of Grammy categories. From 2012 onwards, the category was merged with the Best Contemporary Blues Album category to form the new Best Blues Album category . Sippie Wallace – Sippie. My Guitar Sings the Blues". Blues-belter Sippie Wallace's recordings with jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong rank among the best of the 1920s. Those recordings alone would be enough to secure her a place in musical history, but in the mid-1960s Wallace came out of a long retirement and wowed a whole new generation of blues, jazz, and rock fans - doing exactly the things she did forty years earlier. Like good bourbon, her voice just got richer and fuller with age. Bonnie Raitt has cited Wallace as a major influence and has covered many of the songs associated with her. Nick Dedina.
