Hour of the Wolf is the eighth studio album by Canadian-American rock band Steppenwolf. The album was released in September 1975, by Epic Records. Jerry Edmonton drums, art direction, George Biondo – bass guitar, vocals.

It was the first of three albums the band created after reforming in 1974 before they disbanded again in 1976. Straight Shootin' Woman" taken from the album was the last Steppenwolf song to chart on the Billboard Top 40. Few bands with as many hits to their name (eight gold albums, six US Top 40 singles) are as tied to a single song as Steppenwolf, who will be forever known for Born To Be Wild. Yet despite some radical overtones, mid- 70s Steppenwolf lacked some of the audacious political activism encapsulated by their 1971 feminist concept album For Ladies Only. Hour Of The Wolf is similarly thoughtful but, for the most part, slightly smoother and more 70s, with hints of Dr John in the funkier songs (Annie, Annie Over). While these releases will never be as iconic as that song, they’re full of the atmosphere of their times and pretty satisfying over all. SPV 265972 (2CD).
