Vampire Weekend have been letting go dribs and drabs of info on Modern Vampires In The City, their third album, ever since they played the new song Unbelievers on Kimmel late last year. And today, we finally get to hear the studio versions of a couple of the songs that are on the album. Diane Young, which the band played live this past weekend at SXSW, is so drum-driven and frantic and hyperactive that it defies genre designation, and it has Ezra Koenig trying out a sort of Elvis hiccup.

Vampire Weekend have revealed new songs ‘Diane Young’ and ‘Step’. Scroll down to listen now. The New York band premiered new tracks ‘Diane Young’ and ‘Step’ on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show, having teased fans with the news on Twitter. We’re dropping a double a-side single today – Diane Young/ Step. Get Ready wrote the band.

Vampire Weekend is the eponymous debut studio album by American rock band Vampire Weekend, released on January 29, 2008 by XL Recordings. The album was produced by band member Rostam Batmanglij, with mixing assistance from Jeff Curtin and Shane Stoneback. Its cover photo is a Polaroid picture from one of their early shows in Columbia University. Released after a year of building internet buzz, the album showcased the band’s unique hybrid of indie pop, chamber music, and afropop influences.

The album, titled Modern Vampires of the City, will drop May 7th, but Diane Young is not the only tasty snippet that we get to sample prior to the album release. Today, the band also released Step alongside Diane Young, after having debuted them at SXSW. Step, however, comes off a bit more familiar with an instrumental background reminiscent of tracks off 2008’s self-titled, and Ezra Koenig’s vocals are much more similar to The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance than in Diane Young. If you love powerful drums, breakdowns and hyper melodies, Diane Young is the track for you. If you prefer.
